The 2010-2011 GES Athletic Banquet was held at Bayou DeSiard Country Club on Saturday, May 7th. Approximately, 180 student athletes, coaches, parents, family, and friends attended the Banquet. This event provided an opportunity to recognize all GES athletes and coaches. 377 awards were given out to student athletes and each coach was recognized for his or her contribution to GES Athletics.

Andrew Whitworth was the guest speaker for this year’s event. Andrew talked about character and how will people remember you. To set goals and to always work hard to achieve those goals. Andrew encouraged the athletes to enjoy sports, work hard in school, to be a strong Christian, and to treat people the way you want to be treated.
After Andrew’s inspirational talk, we honored our athletes. Through the course of the night we honored 110 boy and girl athletes that participated in cheerleading, Gatorettes, cross country, football, basketball, soccer, baseball, softball, tennis, and golf. This year, 310 participation awards and 63 coach’s choice awards were presented.
To top off the night, the Coach of the Year was presented along with the Outstanding Female and Male Athlete of the Year.
James Lewis was presented the Coach of the Year award. James has donated countless hours to coaching Grace Students. James coached the 6th grade boys basketball, the junior high boys basketball, and the junior high girls basketball. There were many highlights that could be mention about Coach James’s basketball season that would fill several pages. But one highlight that must be mentioned is the sixth grade boy’s winning the end-of-the-year tournament against Lexington in a nail-biting 19-18 victory.
Sarah Morgan Sivils (Two Names) was presented the Outstanding Female Athlete of the Year. Sarah Morgan participated in 4 sports (Cheerleading, basketball, soccer, and softball).
William Clausen was presented the Outstanding Male Athlete of the Year. William participated in 6 sports (cross country, basketball, football, soccer, baseball, and tennis).
